Soapmaking is a chemical reaction that occurs when you add an alkali (lye) to oils (animal fat or vegetable oils) and you get soap. Sure it involves recipes, scales and lots of dark amber bottles with fragrances and essential oils but the most important ingredient we add is the 'fun' (translate: color-swirls-great fragrances).
We use the 'cold process method' of soapmaking which basically means we don't actually cook the soap, we simply stir together our select combination of oils with the lye, add the color and fragrance (or essential oils) and pour all the fun into the mold. The soap will stay in this mold for about 24 hours. It is then cut and allowed to cure for 2-3 weeks giving you a great bar of soap.
